5 TRICKS OF THE TRADE FOR THE BEST BABY’S FIRST VALENTINE’S DAY PHOTOS
1. IT’S ALL ABOUT THE LIGHTING
Your lighting with make or break your pictures, regardless if you’re using a phone or a fancy camera.
Natural lighting is best, especially a cloudy day or when the sun isn’t directly hitting your subject.
That being said, we don’t always have natural light. If you are taking baby’s first Valentine’s Day pictures indoors and you don’t have a big window to use as a light source, you can use lamps with daylight bulbs to bright up the area.
If you plan on doing a lot of photoshoots with your little one, consider investing in a photography lighting system. I use this one and I love it. It was pretty inexpensive and it works great!
2. USE AN INEXPENSIVE BACKDROP
Using a backdrop can give your pictures a more professional feel if you’re taking pictures inside.
You can also use a backdrop on the floor, if you’re laying baby down for the photoshoot. You can also use blankets, small rugs – really anything to make your baby the focal point.
3. USE A STABILIZER
One of the biggest reasons a picture doesn’t come out laser sharp is because of camera shake.
To combat this, use an app with a stabilizer. It will reduce camera shake and let you focus in on your little Valentine.
You can also use a tripod paired with a remote, which will really help keep your phone perfectly still.
4. COLLECT ADORABLE PROPS
I love collecting cute little props for baby photoshoots!
Some popular Valentine’s Day baby photoshoot props:
- Valentine’s Day Heart Garland
- Burlap Love Garland Banner
- Valentine’s Backdrop
- Wood Floor Backdrop
- Tassel Garland
- L-O-V-E Letters
- Letter Board
5. EDIT EDIT EDIT
You’ll usually still need to edit your pictures and make them a bit brighter.
I personally like PicTapGo and Snapseed.
With PicTapGo, you can use their filters to really brighten the picture.
With Snapseed, you have even more control of the editing process. You can remove small blemishes or something like lint off of a sweater using their healing tool. You can also make the picture brighter by using the exposure tool.

BABY’S FIRST VALENTINE’S DAY PHOTOSHOOT IDEAS

I love the simplicity of this photo. If you’re lucky enough to create a photoshoot outdoors around Valentine’s Day (it’s too cold and snowy where I live), let nature be your background.
Dress your little one in a beautiful baby’s first Valentine’s Day outfit with pink balloons. If you want to stray away from pink for a boy’s baby’s first Valentine’s photoshoot, you can find red balloons as well.

Another adorable outdoor Valentine’s Day photoshoot. You can find Valentine’s Day props at any store for baby to hold to complete the picture.

Balloons and heart garland make for a great Valentine’s Day background in this adorable picture.

If baby isn’t sitting yet, using a wood floor backdrop is the perfect idea. You can find wood letters here to complete this look.

You can place a Valentine’s Day banner in the background.

Or use a Valentine’s Day backdrop to perfect the theme!

How adorable is this guy? I love the galvanized letters as props!
